What to pack when traveling

shooin.jpg

I am a big believer in traveling light and that means that everything that gets packed has to be able to do double duty, be lightweight, perhaps be be suitable for another use and dry super fast. SHOOin Expandable Travel Shoe Bags for Carry-on Luggage is one such item that I like to pack.

The company provides  two nylon-spandex bags, that are black and come with a drawstring and cord lock to keep bags closed. Spandex is lightweight and what I like about these black bags is that they stretch. I can put two flats or even bulky tennis shoes in them. The bags can do double duty as dirty laundry bags or just bags to hold stuff in. Since spandex dries super quick, the bags can be washed at any time during a trip rest assured that they will be dry in a day.

When the shoe bags are used for shoes, they protect clothes from the dirt left behind on shoes. The drawstring has a closure gizmo on it, so you can pull the cord to close and lock the opening. I really like my shoes bags and won't leave home without them.

Seal's New Album Entitled 7

If you like love songs, the my heart is broken type of songs, than this album is for you. Love songs like "Crazy" and "Kiss from a Rose" are some favorites and track after track this Grammy Award winning, multiplatinum singer and songwriter explores the many facets of love.

The album concerns the most sung about, most talked about, and most documented emotion—love,” he affirms. “I tried to capture all of the wonderfully different dynamics of love, whether it’s the anger, the acceptance, the bliss, the sadness, the elation, or the recklessness. It’s this emotion and the ways it makes us feel. It’s about the extreme joy
and the extreme regret as well as all of the crazy things love makes us do.

I have always enjoyed listening to Seal's voice. To me he is the male version of Sade, if that makes any sense. I like his smooth tone and I thought it lend itself very well to the theme of this album. What do you think?

Harry Connick Jr's That Would Be Me Album

Who's getting the new Harry Connick Jr album on Oct.23? 3thatwouldbeme #020

Harry Connick Jr. is a singer, composer, musician, songwriter, arranger and bandleader with many  years of experience in the music industry. After 25 years he has stepped out of his own comfort zone to team up with two external producers Eg White (Sam Smith, Adele, Florence And The Machine), and Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Pink, Weezer, Fall Out Boy) to create  the "That Would be Me" album.

The album offers music that is full of character, energy and personality. There are hints of R&B, piano pieces and gospel and I thought it was different from his usual style. I like that he has chosen to try something different. He has traded the heavily influenced New Orleans style for a new more modern beat.

My favorites are The "Songwriter" which is about the process of creating music and "Do you Really Need Her" which is a sad, soulful song.

Collecting all Things Elephant Related - Elephant Mandala Tapestry

Sponsored

People collect all sort of things, but nick nacks depicting elephants must be one of the most popular hobby. Some people insist that only elephants with raised trunks bring good luck and are very insistent as how these elephants are placed in a room. Others insist on the exact opposite and some just like elephants and don't care how they are displayed.

An Enchantment of Elephants
By Emily Gwathmey

Elephants have been promoted to godly status in Indian culture, are the symbol for the Republican party, are adored by kids and grown ups alike. They symbolize luck and longevity and there is no limit with our fascination with these gentle looking giants. There is even a place called Mister Ed's Elephant  museum that displays 12,000 elephants in all sort of sizes and shapes!

I have clients and friends who collect elephants and sometimes hear them complain that they have so many, yet can't stop collecting either. This collecting craze usually starts when someone mentions that they really, really like elephants. They get one and then another as gifts, perhaps can't resist to purchase that super cute elephant they spot at a store and before you know it have amassed a sizeable collection. I am guilty of adding to a friend's collection as well and fueling that craze. I think it's because I am an in the closet elephant collector too. I love buying stuff that depicts elephants, but can still part with these super cool finds by gifting them to others.  That brings me to today's great find - an Elephant Mandala Wall Hanging!

This 55x85 in cloth is made of 100% cotton which is machine washable and dryable. The Indian made tapestry can be used as a bed cover, tapestry, curtain, wall hanging or table cloth. It even ships with a white pillow cover in case you want to use it to drape over your single bed. If used as a bedcover it is wider than long and will fit over the top but the ends won't overhang much. The cloth is as thick as a sheet and well suited as wall hanging or table cloth. The black and white print of elephants with raised trunks and floral patterns has a nice contrast and adds an ethnic feel to your decor. I have not washed it, so I do not know if the colors bleed or not.

Sureina Combination Padlock is TSA Approved

Do you lock your luggage when you travel? I do and I use the Sureina 3 Digit combination lock. You need to remember only 3 digits (0-9) for the combination padlock to work. There are no keys to misplace and best of all TSA agents can easily open and lock the luggage without damaging you luggage and/or the lock.

est of all TSA agents have a special key that they use to open these locks and they cannot remove the key unless they lock the padlock again. This means that as long as the lock is properly attached to the luggage it is safe from thieves. Unless of course someone runs of with the whole piece of luggage.

The padlock is constructed of zinc alloy with a steel shackle and plastic cover. The digits are easy to see and rotate and the whole lock is very well made. I actually have two of these locks and during my month long track through Europe had one attached to my carryon and the other to close the zipper to my backpack. I liked knowing that no one could unzip the pack while I was standing in crowded subways or in ticket lines. Yet, whenever I needed to get to the interior, without having to fumble for keys, a quick twist of three number let me get quickly retrieve whatever was in the bag.

The locking hook swivels nicely and has enough play room to allow looping through zipper tags. The lock makes a small click sound when it is closed.

The instruction to set your TSA Approved Combination Padlock are really easy:

The original number is 0-0-0. To set your own combination, please follow these easy steps:

1. Pull up the shackle to open the lock

2. Rotate the shackle 90° counterclockwise and press all the way down . Hold down and continue to turn another 90° counterclockwise

3. Set your own combination by turning dials.

4. Turn the shackle back as normal. Then the setting is completed.

To reset a new combination, please repeat step 1 to 4 above. Just remember your new combination and you are good to go.

The Torment of Rachel Ames Book Review

Jeff Gunhus is the author of thriller and horror novels for adults and the middle grade/YA series, The Templar Chronicles. He has written the Torment of Rachel Ames and I had a chance to read it before it gets published around November 10th, 2015 by Seven Guns Press.

If you like stories that are full of suspense then this might be a book for you. The story follows novelist Rachel Ames who escapes to a lake cabin to calm her mind and regain a sense of herself. The setting of the lake cabin is beautiful and the neighbours seem nice, yet the author feels an unease she can not explain.

You know that gut feeling one gets, yet tries to ignore? Well she does that too and sets about to settle in when unexplainable things start to happen.

I love thrillers with a twist that explore the complex layers of people's psyche. I received an uncorrected proof courtesy of the author, Jeff Gunhus, in exchange for an honest review. This book reminded me of the writing style of Stephen King. It was suspenseful and kept you wondering what role the odd neighbor had to play in the developing story. I loved the imagery of one of the characters that Rachel stumbles upon one day. A man who sweeps the floor in a forest and talks about Greek mythology. The artist in me is seeing a painting develop - LOL!

Anyow I enjoyed reading this book and hope to be selected to read even more of Jeff Gunhus' books as they become available. Let me know how you like the story if you have read it as well.

Amazon's Kindle Singles program officially selected RACHEL AMES to be included as part of their curated collection. There are only 320 titles in the collection including some of my heroes Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Lee Childs and Hugh Howey. You can check it out here. http://tinyurl.com/pghrhcn (you might need to cut and paste the link into your browser.)

MUSIC, REVIEWS

Andrea Bocelli Cinema Album

Andrea Bocelli is an Italian classical tenor whose music I first discovered when I listen to his 1997 pop album Romanza. Ever since then I have been listening to his albums and even saw him at a concert in California. Needless to say I am a big fan of his beautiful, rich tenor voice.

Andrea Bocelli sings in many different languages and covers many different musical genres, which make him quite a diverse musician.

Here is an interesting story. Did you know that when Andrea's mom was pregnant with him she was advised to abort the pregnancy. However , his mom did not listen to the doctors and Andrea Bocelli was gifted to this world. Since childhood, he had very poor eyesight and he even lost his sight entirely during a soccer accident. He spend a lot of his time listening to classical music and singing along. He gave his first concert in a small village close to where he was born and won his first singing competition at age 14.

But enough history, let's talk about his new album titled Cinema. The album celebrate music from classical films and is available on October 23rd, 2015.

The album cover musical scores from "Doctor Zhivago", "Love Story", "The Godfather", "Life is Beautiful", "Gladiator", "The Postman", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "West Side Story" and "Evita", and many more. There are even duos with Ariana Grande and Nicole Scherzinger. The album is so good that I even heard hubby singing along when I was listening to the album for this review. I have to admit I still like it best when he sings in Italian, but I really liked all the songs in this album as well.

Bocelli said the following: “With the album ‘Cinema,’ I’m fulfilling a wish that I’ve harboured for decades. I’ve never made a secret of my dream of bringing to life a recording project associated with soundtracks, as I truly believe that it’s an exceptional artistic treasure trove.
